French research institutes in Kenya

Three French research institutes have resident teams and an institutional representation in Nairobi :

Centre de Coopération Internationale en Recherche Agronomique pour le Développement (CIRAD) (International Cooperation Centre of Agricultural Research for Development)

Institut Français de Recherche en Afrique (IFRA) (French Institute of Research In Africa)

Institut de Recherche pour le Développement (IRD). (Research Institute for Development)

The Director General of CIRAD also represents the Agreenium  Consortium which brings together the main stakeholders in research and higher training in agriculture and veterinary in France.

In 2009, these three institutes signed a framework agreement on cooperation with the Kenyan Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Technology (MOHEST).

Their teams of researchers support Kenyan students and develop scientific programs in collaboration with various Kenyan or international research institutions. They can facilitate access to scholarship for doctorate studies for East African students participating in their research programs.

These institutes offer several opportunities in terms of expertise and scientific capacity building, including social sciences, meeting the challenges related to economic and social development. These institutes not only cover Kenya but also the Eastern and Southern Africa.
